Charleroi Locks and Dam 01

Location: Charleroi, PA
Owner: US Army Corps of Engineers
General Contractor: Choi/Joseph B. Fay Co.
Value: $600,000
Date Complete: 2003

Scope of Project:

Brayman performed a variety of drilling items for this project. Cold joint anchors were installed through the monoliths to reinforce the structure subsequent to dewatering of the lock chamber. Next, Brayman drilled joint seals along the monolith construction joints and installed hydrophobic material for water cutoff. Instrumentation holes were drilled along each side of the lock to facilitate installation of equipment used to measure the stability of the lock during dewatering activities. Finally, 36-inch cores were completed along the downstream face of the concrete monoliths so the general contractor could install driven bearing piles.
