Ft. Pitt Blvd. Eastbound Phase II Reconstruction

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Owner: Penn DOT
General Contractor: Brayman Construction Corporation
Value: $31,500,000
Date Complete: December 2002

Scope of Project:

Accomplished under an aggressive schedule, this project involved the construction of a 1,900 LF 35-span prestressed concrete I-beam bridge and approach roadway for the City of Pittsburgh. The work included the reconstruction of overpass connections to Fort Pitt Boulevard, and construction of a new 3-span bridge and ramps. In addition, Brayman also completed installation of 101- 7 inch diameter micropiles to depths of 50 feet for the bridge abutments.

The final phase included the relocation of the Eastbound Fort Pitt Boulevard connection to the Smithfield Street Bridge, and the construction of a new 5 span-Ramp B bridge connecting the Smithfield Street bridge onto Grant Street.

Brayman earned a $1.6 million incentive compensation bonus by aggressively bidding the project, completing the work in 8 months, and returning the highly traveled roadway back to the public 15 days ahead of Brayman’s predicted schedule; and in retrospect completing the three phases of this project 3, 5, and 6 months ahead of Penn DOT’s initial schedule.
