James Rumsey Bridge Replacement

Scope of Project:

Brayman was contracted for the demolition and replacement of the existing steel deck truss bridge spanning the Potomac River in both states of West Virginia and Maryland. The existing bridge was replaced with a 3 span steel girder bridge 1,097 feet in length. This project also included a retaining wall step system on both abutments and construction of a timber pedestrian bridge in C & O Canal Park. The new bridge contained 44 girders ranging from 14’ to 18’ deep and up to 125’ long and had 20’ by 90’ long haunch girders that weighed 75 tons each. Installation of 57 rock anchors, 2 soldier pile walls containing approximately 100 soldier piles, a Value Engineered 3,000 sq. ft. soil nail wall, 8 earth retention walls, and 54 micropiles were installed through karst conditions on this project.
