Scope of Project:
This design/build project required the installation of five 100-kip micropiles to support a foundation for a new machine. Each pile was approximately 40 ft. long and was socketed 15 ft. into the bedrock below. The micropiles consisted of 5 1/2” 80-ksi steel pipe filled with 4000-psi grout. The grout was not only used inside the micropile, but also around the outside of the casing pipe in order to develop the required skin friction. Since construction was being performed within an active plant, this project was completed on a weekend, during the plant’s normal “shutdown” period. |
