Allegheny Energy Power Plant

Location: Springdale, PA
Owner: Allegheny Energy
General Contractor: Black & Veatch Construction Inc.
Value: $2,792,000
Date Complete: January 2002

Scope of Project:

Brayman Construction Corporation furnished and installed over 1,200 - 14” diameter concrete filled pipe piles and 50 - 8” diameter micropiles for the foundation of a new 500 MW gas fired power plant. Piles were tested to over 280 tons and included compression, lateral and uplift load carrying requirements.

The project was faced with variable site conditions and constantly changing schedule requirements, creating the need for extensive coordination between contractor and engineer. Brayman utilized a single crew working 5 or 6 days per week, 10 hours per day to complete the project ahead of schedule. As with most power plant projects, early completion allows early generation revenues. Brayman provided the project positive float and the opportunity for early completion.
