Scope of Project:

The City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania hired Brayman Construction Corporation to accomplish a slide stablization for the City's West End Overlook Area. The Slide consisted of an area 500 feet long and situated one hundred feet above an active Norfolk and Southern rail traffic line averaging about 35 trains per day. Adding to the complexity of the project, the area had difficult access and working locations.

The hillside stabilization required 15,000 cubic yards of excavation and the installation of 60 each - 12 ton pre-cast reaction blocks, and the installation of 60 each - 10 strand anchors (130 feet long with a 60 foot bond zone). Anchor drilling - using standard drilling and excavation equipment was accomplished through the prehistoric slide area with numerous boulders and outcrippings.
