Scope of Project:
This project called for the installation of 30 each 37-strand, epoxy coated rock anchors. Uniquely, the anchors were located at the crest of the uncontrolled spillway section of the dam. Access to the anchors was from barges and a steel deck platform constructed on the top of the spillway. Using small crawler mounted drill rigs, Brayman drilled 12” diameter boreholes and 40” diameter recesses.
As with most dam anchors, stringent water tightness testing, alignment checks, consolidation grouting and re-drilling were required for each anchor. Once the borehole meets all the necessary criteria, the tendons were inserted into the boreholes using a hydraulic uncoiler. Testing of the rock anchors was performed with a 1400-ton stressing ram. At selected locations, extended lift-off tests were performed to analyze the long- term load loss associated with the rock anchors.
The project was completed both on time and under budget. |
