Scope of Project:
Brayman Construction Corporation installed 76 micropiles for a new sanitary authority expansion project. Approximately half of the 12-inch diameter micropiles were installed in “low headroom” applications. Brayman utilized two drill rigs to complete the work in a timely fashion. Due to the cohesionless overburden and random fill at the site, 13 3/8-inch diameter casing was flushed to the proposed grade. Flowable grout mix was then pumped as casing extraction proceeded. Finally, adequate frictional resistance was generated in the dense sand and gravel strata to withstand the 120 ton design load. The depth of the micropiles installed at the site varied from 30 to 50 feet.
Brayman also completed the installation of 31 caissons to depths in excess of 50-feet. The 30-inch diameter caissons were installed inside of a 50-ft by 50-ft footprint enclosed by four existing structures. In addition, approximately 126 wall feet of continuous steel sheetpiling consisting of AZ-18, AZ-26, and AZ-36 was used to shore the 13-foot excavation and support the existing, in-service facilities. |
