Brady Street Bridge

Location: Dubois, PA
Owner: Penn DOT
General Contractor: Palo
Value: $700,000
Date Complete: 2002

Scope of Project:

This reconstruction project called for complete replacement of the existing superstructure and substructure of the 3-span bridge above existing railroad tracks. Each substructure for the bridge was originally designed using drilled and driven H-piles. The work involved construction of bridge abutments and pier footings.

Understanding the constraints of the existing terrain, structural conditions, and limited access concerns, Brayman value engineered the project using a drilled-in micropile solution to replace the former H-pile configuration. Brayman installed a one-for-one pile substitution, totaling 152 each, 9-5/8” diameter, 1/2” wall, 80 ksi steel pipe pile approximately 50 feet in length for two piers and abutments. This solution allowed the foundation piles to extend through the fill settlement and bear on the rock strata below.
