Brayman was contracted by the Washington Group International, WGI (now known as URS) to construct a new barge unloading and mooring facility as part of the upgrades necessary for FGD at the existing plant.
Brayman installed 12 new river cells, consisting of 2, 45' diameter; 1, 30' diameter; and 9, 20' diameter. Each river cell was filled with stone and the three main cells were capped with concrete. Access to the three main cells from the plant was via a steel platform and walkway, which was also furnished and installed by Brayman.
Brayman was also contracted to perform various other land-based work consisting of the installation of limited headroom micropiles, caissons and temporary sheeting to support the cut and cover tunnel installation. The micropiles were installed to provide additional support to existing foundations which were being modified to carry additional pipe racks. Brayman installed 14, 36" diameter drilled shafts for new foundations for duct work.
All of the specialty geotechnical work was performed in and around the facility without interrupting operations.
