Nesbitt Dam Rehabilitation

Brayman was subcontracted to provide specialty construction services for the Nesbitt Dam Rehabilitation Project located ten miles southeast of Scranton, PA. Work entailed dam anchor installation at various locations, driven piling to support a new training wall, and design/build services for a support of excavation wall.

Dam Anchors
Scope required installation of 25, 54-strand anchors for a total length of 2,419’. Anchor holes range from 12” to 15” diameter. Required drill tolerance was 1:100.

Locations of installation include: 5, 679’ in the non-overflow section; 5, 390’ to tie down the RCC training wall; and 15, 1,350’ in the spillway, where artesian conditions of up to 65’ of hydrostatic head
were encountered.

Driven Piling
124 battered and vertical H-Piles totaling over 5,600’ were driven in the existing stream bed to offer foundation support for a new training wall.

Support of Excavation
Temporary shoring measures included design and installation of a 40’ exposed height wall consisting of 21 driven soldier piles and wood lagging with 6 rows of multi-strand tieback anchors. Anchors range in size from 4-strand to 7-strand.

Brayman strictly adhered to all project safety and environmental precautions to ensure all upgrades meet compliance with federal safety regulations.
