Brayman Construction recently completed accelerated bridge deck replacement on bridges 3019N and 3020N for the West Virginia Parkways Authority. The project, which entailed replacement of concrete bridge decks on both bridges, was located on the WV Turnpike near Ghent.
The bridge decks were replaced during two separate 112 and 113 hour closures in September and October. The existing decks were removed in phases and replaced with precast concrete deck panels. The closure pours between the panels were poured utilizing a mobile mixer and Rapid Set Concrete. The decks were then waterproofed using a spray applied waterproof membrane, and received a 2.5″ asphalt overlay. The contracts also included 600′ of full depth roadway and shoulder reconstructions.
Contract time specified was 225 total hours to replace both bridges. Brayman was able to complete the deck replacements in a total of 217 hours; 8 hours ahead of schedule.
